India’s Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) is developing advanced armour technologies for the Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV), aimed at countering modern high-penetration kinetic energy threats. The new protection systems are expected to defend against FSAPDS rounds in the 600–800 mm penetration class, significantly improving survivability over current Indian tank standards. The effort reflects India’s broader push to develop next-generation armored warfare technologies combining composite armour, reactive protection systems, and lightweight materials while balancing mobility and battlefield protection.
