Slovakia has concluded a framework agreement to supply its domestically developed SAM-120 self-propelled mortar systems to Azerbaijan, according to Slovak media reports.

The agreement was signed during the World Defense Show in Riyadh between Slovakia’s state-owned ZŤS Špeciál and Azerbaijan’s Iglin Scientific Production Enterprise. The deal covers an initial delivery of 96 systems, with options that could increase the total order to as many as 300 units depending on Azerbaijan’s defense requirements.

The first tranche is valued at approximately €210 million ($249 million), with production set to begin immediately.

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák described the agreement as one of the largest in the country’s defense export sector. He stated that the first system is expected to be presented to Azerbaijani officials at a defense exhibition in Baku in autumn 2026. Discussions are also planned regarding potential licensing arrangements and partial or full production of the system in Azerbaijan.

Introduced in 2024, the turret-mounted 120mm SAM-120 features a 35-round magazine, a firing rate of up to 20 rounds per minute, and an operational range of approximately 8 kilometers. The system is operated by a crew of two to four personnel and provides 360-degree firing capability.
