Romania is moving ahead with the next stage of its armored modernization program, requesting parliamentary approval for large-scale procurement of advanced tanks and support vehicles. The plan includes hundreds of new main battle tanks, derivative platforms, logistics systems, and training infrastructure. Earlier stages of the program began with smaller acquisitions, some drawn from US stocks, to quickly upgrade capabilities. The expanded plan reflects a shift toward domestic industrial participation, with maintenance and subsystem integration expected locally. The program is intended to replace outdated Soviet-era armor, align with NATO standards, and strengthen deterrence, particularly in light of heightened regional tensions.
