AM General Receives $82M Order for More US Army HumveesAM General has secured an $82.2 million US Army contract to supply additional High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, continuing procurement of the long-serving Humvee platform. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreement raises the contract’s cumulative value to approximately $754.6 million and is expected to remain active through August 2028.The Army will determine individual work locations and funding requirements as orders are placed. Although the service is gradually introducing newer tactical vehicles, the latest award shows that HMMWVs continue to fulfill important operational requirements across the force.AM General has received several recent Humvee orders. These include a $50.9 million modification in September 2025 covering 224 vehicles and a $126.5 million order in July for M1165A1B3 variants. The continued purchases allow the Army to maintain and modernize portions of its existing tactical vehicle fleet. The HMMWV program began in 1983 after the Army awarded AM General an initial production contract for 55,000 vehicles. By 2012, production had exceeded 280,000 units. Over decades of service, the Humvee has been adapted for transportation, command, security and weapons-carrying missions. At the same time, the Army is pursuing replacement programs. AM General was selected in 2023 for an $8.66 billion JLTV follow-on production agreement covering up to 20,682 vehicles and nearly 9,900 trailers. The service is also evaluating commercial utility vehicles for lower-risk missions, while Infantry Squad Vehicles are replacing Humvees in some infantry formations.Despite these changes, the Humvee remains a versatile platform. Depending on its configuration, it can transport personnel, carry various weapons and provide mobility across a wide range of operational environments.
