The US Navy has received its first LCU 1700 landing craft from Austal USA, marking a major step in modernizing its amphibious logistics fleet. The LCU 1710 completed acceptance trials before delivery and demonstrated its ability to operate without tugs or pilots. The vessel features a large cargo deck capable of transporting heavy military equipment and personnel. Powered by twin 500-horsepower diesel engines, it can reach 11 knots and travel up to 1,200 nautical miles. Up to 12 vessels are planned under the current program.
