The US Coast Guard is working with Lockheed Martin to develop a craft-mounted high-power microwave weapon designed to disable small, fast-moving smuggling vessels. The system uses electromagnetic bursts to disrupt onboard electronics and engines, allowing authorities to stop non-compliant boats without direct physical engagement. The project aims to overcome current size, weight, and power limitations that prevent existing HPM systems from being deployed on smaller craft. Alongside this effort, the Coast Guard is also developing a Contactless Vessel Stopping Capability prototype focused on countering agile boats and unmanned surface vessels involved in trafficking operations.
