The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $2.3-billion contract modification to support long-lead materials and early manufacturing work for Virginia-class Block VI submarines. The work, extending through 2035, supports pre-construction activities across multiple US locations. The Virginia-class program remains the backbone of America’s nuclear-powered attack submarine fleet, with Block VI expected to feature improved stealth, sonar systems, propulsion technologies, and expanded strike capacity through the Virginia Payload Module.
