Germany and Brazil have signed an agreement to procure four additional Tamandaré-class frigates for the Brazilian Navy. Construction will be handled by Águas Azuis Consortium, which includes Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer Defence & Security, and Atech. The program, launched in 2020 and managed by EMGEPRON, aims to replace older frigates and corvettes. Based on the MEKO A-100 design, each vessel is 107 meters long, displaces around 3,500 tonnes, and is equipped with missiles, torpedoes, guns, and a helicopter deck. Deliveries are expected by 2028, strengthening Brazil’s naval modernization.
