The Swedish government has announced plans to acquire four advanced frigates from France’s Naval Group as part of a large-scale naval modernization effort. Officials highlighted the French company’s ability to provide fully equipped vessels by 2030 along with strong air defense performance and operational maturity. The procurement follows an international evaluation process involving bids from the UK and Spain. Sweden has not finalized the overall contract value, though defense officials estimate each ship could cost more than 10 billion kronor depending on final weapons and equipment configurations.
