India’s future Project-76 conventional submarine program is emerging as a major catalyst for domestic naval innovation, with both public and private shipbuilders pursuing competing indigenous submarine concepts. The initiative seeks to develop a next-generation attack submarine optimized for endurance, stealth, advanced sensors, and indigenous combat systems. By fostering competition between leading defense manufacturers, the program has the potential to accelerate design innovation, strengthen underwater warfare expertise, and reduce long-term dependence on foreign submarine technologies.
