Bulgaria’s Stryker fleet will receive upgraded reconnaissance and surveillance kits from Teledyne FLIR Defense as part of a three-year, $32-million US Army contract, supporting the country’s military modernization objectives.

The advanced suite includes the TacFLIR 280-HDEP EO/IR system, Ranger R20SS long-range radar, and Cameleon command-and-control software for real-time threat detection and tracking. Teledyne will manufacture the components in the US and Canada before shipping them to Bulgaria for installation.

Subsequent phases will expand capabilities with unmanned aerial systems and nuclear, biological, and chemical sensors to enable standoff identification. The program complements Bulgaria’s recent Stryker acquisitions — nearly 200 vehicles replacing older Soviet-era platforms — enhancing force readiness and NATO integration.

According to Teledyne, the TacFLIR system delivers thermal and low-light detection in varied environments, and the Ranger R20SS can detect and track multiple targets at distances up to 20 kilometers. The Cameleon software platform provides a modular architecture for streamlined integration and scalable battlefield awareness.
