Britain is shifting its naval modernization strategy by replacing its planned Type 83 destroyers with six Common Combat Vessels capable of leading multi-domain unmanned operations. Rather than relying solely on large warships, the Royal Navy aims to integrate autonomous air, surface, and underwater systems into a more flexible force structure. The CCVs will serve as command hubs for drone operations, strengthen air defense capabilities, and improve operational reach while reducing crew requirements. The initiative supports the UK’s broader maritime security strategy and reinforces collective defense efforts within NATO.
