The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited under the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Built entirely within the country, the vessel strengthens coastal security while showcasing India’s expanding indigenous naval shipbuilding capability. Designed for high-speed maritime operations, ICGS Akshay will perform coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement, search-and-rescue missions, anti-smuggling patrols, environmental protection, and humanitarian assistance. Its induction forms part of the Coast Guard’s ongoing fleet modernization programme aimed at enhancing maritime security and safeguarding India’s vast coastline and exclusive economic zone.
