The US State Department has approved an estimated $11.9 billion sale of Aegis-based combat systems for Germany’s planned Type 127 frigates. The package includes SPY-6 radars, Mk 41 vertical launch systems, and integrated combat management equipment for eight ships. The vessels are intended to defend against ballistic and hypersonic missile threats. Germany is also seeking SM-6 and SM-2 interceptor missiles under related approvals.
