Indra has secured an expanded contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to equip six additional Type 212CD submarines with advanced electronic warfare (EW) and radar systems, doubling its involvement to a total of 12 submarines. This builds upon an earlier agreement covering the first batch ordered jointly by Germany and Norway. The Type 212CD is a next-generation conventional submarine equipped with air-independent propulsion, designed to operate effectively in the North Atlantic while maintaining interoperability with NATO forces. The program originated in 2021, with an initial order split between Norway and Germany, and has since grown through additional procurements. Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) leads the program as prime contractor, while Kongsberg heads a multinational consortium responsible for the ORCCA combat management system. Indra’s EW and radar technologies are integrated into this architecture, enhancing situational awareness and survivability in contested environments. Additional contributors include HENSOLDT, which supplies advanced optronic mast systems. Overall, the program reflects a collaborative European defense model focused on technological integration, operational efficiency, and adaptability in modern undersea warfare.
