India is exploring converting its S4-class nuclear submarines into guided-missile platforms (SSGN) to boost conventional strike capabilities. By replacing ballistic missiles with cruise missiles like BrahMos and Nirbhay, the submarine could carry a larger number of precision weapons. This approach transforms it into a stealthy arsenal submarine capable of long-range strikes. Leveraging an existing platform reduces development costs and timelines while enhancing India’s naval power in the Indo-Pacific.
