The Pentagon is shifting toward a commercial contracting model for the Marine Corps’ Medium Landing Ship program, aiming to accelerate production and control costs. By appointing a Vessel Construction Manager to coordinate multiple shipyards, the Navy seeks to streamline oversight as it pursues up to 35 vessels. Based on the Damen LST-100 design, the ships are expected to bridge the operational gap between small landing craft and large amphibious warships.
