The Hellenic Navy has ordered a fourth FDI frigate from France’s Naval Group in a 982-million-euro deal that includes fleet-wide capability enhancements and long-term maintenance. Roughly one-quarter of the ship’s components and work will come from Greek industry. The vessel expands the FDI program begun in 2022, which includes three in-build frigates. FDIs are multi-mission ships equipped for air, surface, subsurface, and asymmetric warfare, using advanced sensors, automation, and digital processing. Their compact, adaptable design supports operations in diverse environments, with NATO interoperability built in. Sea trials of earlier hulls have validated performance in demanding Atlantic waters.
