Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has offered a customized Mogami-class frigate to Australia as part of its general-purpose frigate procurement program. This version features upgraded systems aligned with US military standards to boost trilateral interoperability. The Japanese proposal is a finalist, competing against Germany’s MEKO A-200. Australia plans to build 11 vessels under this AU$10 billion initiative, with three produced overseas and eight constructed domestically. The final selection is expected in late 2025.
