The Missile Defense Agency has successfully conducted its first live-target tracking test using the AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar, advancing integration with Japan’s Aegis-equipped vessels. Conducted with Lockheed Martin and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, the test validated detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities. The radar can track ballistic, hypersonic, and airborne threats simultaneously and distinguish real targets from decoys. With a detection range of around 2,000 km, it surpasses older systems. Its modular design enables deployment across multiple ship classes and upgrades through software. Japan will deploy it on ASEVs, while Canada and Spain plan similar integration.
