Bengaluru-based SSS Defence has completed another delivery of its indigenous G72 submachine guns to the Punjab Police, highlighting the increasing adoption of domestically manufactured small arms by Indian law enforcement agencies. Chambered in the standard 9x19mm NATO cartridge, the G72 is specifically designed for close-quarter battle and urban tactical operations. The weapon features a roller-delayed blowback operating system capable of delivering a controlled rate of fire of approximately 900 to 950 rounds per minute while maintaining accuracy during automatic firing. Designed with modularity in mind, the G72 incorporates configurable barrel lengths, ambidextrous controls, side-folding stocks, and multiple Picatinny and M-LOK rail interfaces for mounting optics, suppressors, lasers, and tactical accessories. SSS Defence stated that the delivery reflects close cooperation between users and designers to ensure the weapon meets operational requirements for police SWAT teams and counter-terror units. The company has also emerged as the lowest bidder for a major National Security Guard procurement program, signaling growing confidence in indigenous alternatives to imported weapons such as the MP5.
