The US Army has selected three major defense companies to support development under the Extended Range Artillery Projectile program, a key modernization effort designed to increase the range and lethality of 155mm artillery systems. General Dynamics will leverage the combat-proven Vulcano ammunition family, capable of striking targets at ranges up to 70 kilometers with advanced guidance and terminal-seeker technologies. General Atomics is developing a maneuverable projectile expected to exceed 120 kilometers in range while maintaining precision in GPS-denied environments. Meanwhile, BAE Systems will continue qualification work on its Scorpio-XR round, designed for rapid engagement of fixed and moving targets beyond 70 kilometers. Scheduled for operational deployment by 2030, ERAP represents a significant step toward providing US forces with longer-range, highly accurate artillery capabilities against future threats.
