Kanpur-based defence company MKU has introduced the NMK-3000 series, an upgrade package designed to modernize legacy AK-47 rifles into more capable contemporary platforms. The kits focus on improved ergonomics, modularity, and accessory integration while retaining the AK-47’s well-known reliability. Features include a Picatinny rail dust cover for optics, holographic sight, night-vision monocular, vertical grip, pistol grip, folding buttstock with cheek pad, sling swivel, and forehand rail system for tactical accessories. These enhancements address limitations such as outdated ergonomics and lack of rail space without replacing the entire rifle fleet. For Indian Army and paramilitary users, the approach offers a cost-effective route to modern small arms capability while preserving training familiarity and maintenance simplicity. Field-installable components with basic tools reduce downtime and ease adoption in operational areas. The addition of night-fighting capability is particularly valuable across India’s diverse terrain and counter-insurgency environments.
