The Republic of China Navy is moving ahead with large-scale production of the domestically developed Sea Sword II missile, with total procurement expected to exceed 1,200 units. Designed as Taiwan’s future primary medium-range naval air-defense weapon, the missile recently demonstrated its effectiveness during a live-fire exercise targeting a simulated unmanned aerial threat. The weapon integrates with Taiwan’s indigenous vertical launch systems and provides full 360-degree defensive coverage. With a range of approximately 50 kilometers and speeds reaching Mach 4, the Sea Sword II will equip multiple classes of Taiwanese vessels, including frigates, corvettes, and amphibious ships. The procurement program aims to enhance fleet survivability and ensure sufficient stockpiles for sustained combat operations.
