FN Herstal has unveiled a new tactical configuration of the renowned FN MAG machine gun aimed at enhancing its effectiveness in modern combat environments where advanced optics and situational awareness are increasingly critical. The FN MAG Tactical with Long Rail retains the battle-proven reliability and firepower that have made the weapon a global standard while introducing a series of ergonomic and operational improvements. Central to the upgrade is an extended top rail system that provides significantly more space for mounting thermal imagers, night-vision devices, and optical sights in various combinations. This expanded flexibility allows soldiers to adapt the weapon more effectively to diverse mission requirements. The redesign also includes a new ambidextrous feed cover latch, making loading and clearing procedures more efficient for both left- and right-handed users. An integrated retention system keeps the cover securely open while supporting heavy optical equipment, reducing the risk of damage during operation. The addition of an adjustable stock further enhances comfort and shooting stability. By focusing on practical improvements rather than a complete redesign, FN Herstal has ensured that the latest variant remains compatible with existing MAG, M240, and L7A2 machine gun inventories while offering military users a more adaptable and technologically relevant weapon system for future battlefield challenges.
