Taiwan’s security authorities have reported an unusually large deployment of more than 100 Chinese naval, coast guard, and auxiliary vessels operating across waters stretching from the Yellow Sea to the South China Sea and the Western Pacific. According to Taiwanese officials, the buildup intensified after a high-profile meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, raising concerns in Taipei about Beijing’s long-term strategic intentions. Taiwanese National Security Council chief Joseph Wu shared a map illustrating the deployment, which includes naval combatants, coast guard ships, and marine survey vessels spread across multiple regional maritime zones. Although Chinese vessels frequently conduct training exercises in these waters, Taiwanese officials believe the scale and timing of the deployment reflect increasing military pressure on the island. The development comes amid heightened tensions over US arms sales to Taiwan after President Trump suggested such sales could potentially become part of broader negotiations with Beijing. Taiwan continues to rely heavily on American military support to deter potential Chinese aggression while Beijing maintains its opposition to all foreign military cooperation with Taipei.
