The US Navy continues to advance its electronic warfare capabilities with an expanded order for SEWIP Block 3 systems from Northrop Grumman. Designed to counter modern missile threats, the system provides ships with the ability to detect, jam, and disrupt hostile signals before they can cause damage. The inclusion of a carrier-based installation highlights the system’s growing importance across different classes of naval vessels. Alongside SEWIP Block 3, the Navy is developing the Scaled Onboard Electronic Attack system, a smaller and more adaptable solution for platforms with limited capacity. This approach ensures that a wider range of ships can benefit from advanced electronic warfare capabilities. The initiative is part of a larger effort involving multiple defense companies, including Raytheon Technologies and L3Harris Technologies, to enhance the Navy’s overall electronic attack capabilities. These developments reflect the increasing importance of electronic warfare in modern conflict, where controlling the electromagnetic spectrum is critical to mission success.
