German defense firm Rheinmetall has secured a contract to supply Seasnake 30 light naval gun systems for the Swedish Navy’s Combat Boat 90 fast assault craft.
The initial order includes eight close-in weapon systems worth €63 million ($74.5 million), along with airburst and 30mm training ammunition, spare parts, and support services over four years. The agreement also includes an option for up to 29 additional units, with deliveries beginning in February 2028.
Equipped with cameras, infrared sensors, and a laser rangefinder, the remotely operated Seasnake 30 enables automatic detection and tracking of multiple targets. Its revolver cannon fires at 1,100 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 1,050 meters per second.
Rheinmetall described the contract as a milestone, marking the first adoption of the system by a NATO member. Sweden intends to deploy the gun in an anti-aircraft role supporting amphibious forces, complemented by Spexer 2000 3D MkIII Naval radars from Hensoldt.
