Egypt has launched local production of its PV43-M coastal patrol vessel series in collaboration with German shipbuilder NVL Group, signaling an expansion of the country’s naval manufacturing capabilities. The initiative, overseen by NVL Egypt at Alexandria Shipyard, involves the construction of ten 43-meter-long vessels equipped for surveillance, reconnaissance, and coastal defense missions. The first steel cutting took place in September, initiating the full-scale build phase of the program. Under a contract signed in 2023, NVL Egypt—a subsidiary of NVL Group—is responsible for overseeing design transfer, technical support, and quality control. This marks the first Egyptian-led naval project executed entirely within the country with foreign technology integration. Each PV43-M vessel will include modern weapon systems and communications technologies sourced from European suppliers. The initiative supports Egypt’s broader effort to expand its domestic shipbuilding capacity and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. It follows recent fleet modernization programs such as the introduction of FREMM frigates, Gowind 2500 corvettes, and Type 209 submarines. Together, these platforms strengthen Egypt’s capacity to protect maritime trade routes and offshore infrastructure. NVL Group described the collaboration as an example of long-term industrial partnership and capability development. The program is expected to generate skilled employment and enhance Egypt’s role as a regional shipbuilding center capable of supporting both national and export-oriented naval production.
