Hanwha Defence Australia has awarded Electro Optic Systems (EOS) a 108-million Australian dollar contract to deliver R400 Remote Weapon Systems for the LAND 400 Phase 3 program, marking a key modernization step for the Australian Army. This multi-year program includes full integration of the 30mm RWS with the AS21 Redback IFVs, alongside comprehensive training, spares, and technical documentation. The R400 system provides substantial firepower for light armored vehicles and supports modular armament configurations, including dual-weapon setups, automatic grenade launchers, machine guns, and anti-tank guided missiles. Plug-and-play compatibility ensures integration with additional EOS weapon systems. Manufacturing will occur at EOS’ Canberra facility, drawing on a national network of more than 100 Australian suppliers. The Redback IFVs, procured in 2023 to replace aging M113AS4 carriers, will begin receiving these advanced systems from 2027, continuing through 2028. Sustainment and operational support will extend until 2029, underscoring Australia’s focus on domestic defense production and enhanced battlefield readiness.
