Northrop Grumman has developed a new gallium nitride (GaN) microchip designed to enhance high-frequency communications, radar performance, and next-generation wireless networking applications. Operating in the W-band spectrum, the compact device supports advanced satellite communications, radar systems, and emerging 5G/6G technologies by improving signal strength, speed, and reliability. Developed within six months through collaboration with the California DREAMS Hub, the chip leverages low-cost, power-efficient architecture to replace larger legacy systems. The initiative supports US efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor capabilities while accelerating deployment of advanced microelectronics for defense and commercial applications.
