The Indian Army has inducted SSS Defence’s locally developed T-12 shotgun for deployment with Northern Command formations amid the rising threat posed by FPV and quadcopter drones. Inspired by battlefield lessons from the Russia–Ukraine war, the shotgun is intended as a close-range counter-drone weapon capable of increasing hit probability through pellet spread patterns against agile aerial targets. The semi-automatic 12-gauge platform weighs about 3.8 kilograms and supports advanced optics integration for combat use. Its induction reflects a broader global trend where militaries are adapting shotguns and alternative close-range systems to defend troops against low-altitude unmanned threats.
