Naval Group has offered the Indian Navy an upgraded Scorpene Evolved submarine featuring lithium-ion battery propulsion and major capability improvements. Replacing conventional lead-acid batteries, the Li-ion system is expected to increase underwater endurance, reduce snorkeling frequency, and improve survivability. The design also proposes a quieter permanent magnet motor and potentially a vertical launch system capable of deploying BrahMos-NG missiles. Naval Group is pitching the platform as a follow-on build using India’s existing Mazagon Dock production line, helping bridge the gap between Project-75 and future submarine programs. Indigenous content could exceed 60 percent, including possible Indian battery manufacturing.
