Hanwha Defense USA has positioned its K9 mobile howitzer as a candidate for the US Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) program, which seeks to modernize artillery capabilities by replacing legacy systems such as the M777. The K9 platform, already widely deployed globally, offers a proven combination of firepower, mobility, and integrated fire control systems. Hanwha’s proposal includes a localization strategy aimed at establishing domestic production capacity in the United States. This includes building infrastructure, expanding supplier networks, and developing workforce capabilities, particularly in Alabama. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance industrial resilience and ensure sustained wartime production capacity. By leveraging an established platform with localized manufacturing, Hanwha aims to meet the US Army’s requirements for a flexible and scalable artillery solution.
