German sensor specialist Hensoldt has been awarded contracts totaling approximately 400 million euros by KNDS to supply advanced digital optronic systems for Boxer armored vehicles and Leopard 2 A8 main battle tanks. Under a 290-million-euro agreement, Hensoldt will deliver 288 complete digital optronics sets for Boxer RCT 30 vehicles, including the PERI RTWL HD commander’s sight, WAO HD gunner’s sight, Multifunctional Self-Protection System, and associated display monitors. These systems will equip the recently ordered Boxer Schakal infantry fighting vehicles, which combine the GTK Boxer chassis with the Puma turret system. Separately, contracts exceeding 110 million euros cover delivery of 178 digital optronics sets for Leopard 2 A8 tanks, including PERI RTWL HD, FERO Z18, Spectus II sensor head, ATTICA GL thermal imager, and EMES OPO fire-control components. In total, 301 sighting systems will be supplied, with deliveries beginning in 2027. The PERI RTWL HD provides 360-degree surveillance and target acquisition under adverse conditions, while the WAO HD enhances engagement range, stabilization, and digital video output for improved battlefield effectiveness.
