Saab has received a NATO contract worth around 540 million Swedish kronor ($57 million) to upgrade the service life of the Spanish Army’sArthurartillery radar systems. The contract, managed by NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency, entails modernizing the radars to maintain Spain’s artillery locating proficiency and improve operational performance. Key modernization goals include enhanced mobility, extended target detection ranges, and increased accuracy, enabling the systems to identify more targets at longer distances while minimizing electronic detectability. TheArthurradar is highly mobile, capable of rapid deployment and packing—within minutes—and operates with minimal crew due to advanced automation. It supports different vehicle platforms and is built to endure harsh combat conditions. The radar functions by tracking artillery trajectories, calculating enemy firing positions, enabling precise impact assessments, and facilitating swift counter-battery actions. TheArthursystem is employed in 12 nations, among them Norway, Sweden, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, and the UK. As part of its 18th aid package to Kyiv, Sweden has pledged fiveArthurradars to Ukraine.
