Leonardo DRS and KNDS have announced a strategic alliance to offer the battle-tested Caesar self-propelled howitzer to the U.S. Army’s Mobile Fires Platform program. The Caesar, developed by France’s Nexter (a KNDS subsidiary), delivers a blend of long-range firepower, high mobility, and operational flexibility. The system’s proven 155mm/52-caliber gun has demonstrated precision and durability in multiple NATO missions. Through this collaboration, Leonardo DRS will adapt the system with U.S.-standard command, control, and targeting networks to ensure seamless interoperability. The Caesar’s wheeled configuration offers logistical and tactical advantages over traditional tracked howitzers, particularly in rapid deployment and lower sustainment costs. KNDS’s artillery expertise, coupled with Leonardo DRS’s American industrial presence, enhances the offering’s competitiveness in a modernization program seeking efficient, ready-to-field systems. As the U.S. Army explores next-generation mobile artillery platforms, the DRS–KNDS partnership highlights a transatlantic effort to bring combat-proven technology aligned with U.S. doctrine and allied interoperability goals.
