Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has designed the Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) around the demanding operational requirements of the Himalayas rather than pursuing extremely high flight speeds. The helicopter employs a conventional rotor configuration optimized for heavy-lift performance, sustained hovering, and reliable operations at altitudes exceeding 6,000 meters. Advanced composite materials reduce structural weight while improving survivability and durability under harsh operating conditions. The aircraft will feature a digital glass cockpit, AI-assisted pilot support systems, autonomous flight functions, and Manned-Unmanned Teaming capability that allows coordination with reconnaissance and strike drones. Rather than competing directly with tilt-rotor aircraft, the IMRH is optimized for troop transport, logistics, casualty evacuation, and combat support in mountainous terrain where payload capacity and hover performance are operational priorities.
