Following setbacks, Taiwan will receive Mk 48 Mod 6 AT torpedoes from the US in phased deliveries from 2026 to 2028. The $178M deal includes simulators and 24 torpedoes, crucial for replacing obsolete weapons. Production had stalled since 1996, delaying schedules until Raytheon restarted manufacturing. Taiwan’s Navy stresses the 2028 completion target is achievable. Each torpedo weighs nearly 3,744 lbs, dives beyond 365 meters, and travels over 28 knots, offering high lethality against modern threats. With sonar and digital control, the weapons strengthen Taiwan’s undersea combat capabilities amid regional security challenges.
