Diehl Defence and POLARIS, two German defense companies, are collaborating to develop a novel type of missile-launch platform that does not require a pilot.
The idea, known as the Airborne Launching and Attack System (AirLAS), integrates Diehl’s battle-proven IRIS-T air-to-air missile with a reusable unmanned carrier drone created by POLARIS.
The objective is to provide armed forces with a cost-effective means of deploying precision weapons from the air without using manned aircraft.
