The U.S. military is taking a new approach to drone innovation with the rollout of Project G.I., a defense initiative designed to stimulate the rapid deployment of small and mid-tier UAVs. The program looks for proven, easy-to-scale systems that can address urgent tactical needs.
Vendors are encouraged to present drones that may not be highly sophisticated but are ready for action and easily modifiable. A key part of the process includes gathering direct feedback from soldiers to fine-tune capabilities. Final proposals must be in by December 2025, with a $20 million prize pool awaiting the top three selected developers.
