Skydio has received a $7.9 million US Army contract to expand deliveries of its X10D tactical reconnaissance drone fleet under the SRR Tranche 2 initiative. The award builds upon the firm’s earlier Tranche 1 success and underscores the Army’s intent to equip dismounted troops with autonomous, rugged sUAS designed and assembled in the United States. The X10D features rapid VTOL launch, autonomous navigation, and multi-sensor fusion, enabling troops to scout terrain and relay real-time imagery. A 48 MP camera and Boson+ thermal core allow precision detection of threats through smoke or darkness. Integrated AI algorithms provide 360-degree obstacle avoidance and flight stability even when GPS signals are jammed — a common challenge in modern electronic warfare. The platform’s open-architecture design lets operators attach mission-specific modules or integrate it into command networks securely. As part of the SRR family, the X10D fills the tactical gap between nano-drones and theater-level UAVs. Other contractors, including Red Cat, contribute alternate systems for comparative assessment. Collectively, SRR advances the Army’s modernization plan to give every squad immediate reconnaissance capability through AI-driven, soldier-portable systems.
