Saab and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop an Unmanned Airborne Early Warning (UAEW) capability based on the MQ-9B unmanned aircraft system.

By integrating Saab’s advanced AEW sensor technology onto the MQ-9B platform, this partnership will deliver an unmanned solution capable of continuous area surveillance and enhanced situational awareness. The UAEW system will offer persistent monitoring, providing critical intelligence to support modern defense operations.

This new capability will expand Saab’s AEW&C portfolio, complementing manned systems like GlobalEye and enabling operations from both land and sea platforms, including naval warships. The system is designed to operate as a standalone asset or as part of manned-unmanned teams for maximum mission flexibility.

Saab’s proven track record in delivering AEW&C systems to NATO and global partners positions this collaboration as a valuable contribution to the future of air surveillance.
