Sikorsky, part of Lockheed Martin, has introduced the Nomad, a next-generation VTOL drone series that merges helicopter vertical lift capabilities with fixed-wing flight efficiency. Equipped with twin proprotors and MATRIX autonomy technology co-developed with DARPA, the Nomad supports vertical takeoff, hovering, and sustained forward flight. Its hybrid design enables the versatility of rotorcraft combined with the speed and range typical of fixed-wing aircraft. The drones’ open-system architecture allows for modular payload integration, facilitating a variety of missions including surveillance, reconnaissance, and extended-duration operations. By combining maneuverability, long-range performance, and autonomous operation, the Nomad series offers military operators a flexible unmanned aerial platform capable of responding to evolving operational requirements in dynamic environments.
