Gurugram-based deep-tech startup Sharang Shakti has introduced vajR, a completely autonomous hard-kill drone interceptor system built to destroy enemy UAVs in real-time, representing a major step forward for India’s indigenous defense capabilities. This is one of the first attempts by an Indian private company to provide a reusable kinetic drone defense system that is AI-enabled and tailored for today’s aerial dangers.
With increasing security risks from drone invasions across borders, vajR stands out for its combination of reusability, high-speed interception, and smart targeting, all of which were designed entirely in India. VajR is designed for kinetic elimination, unlike conventional counter-drone systems that employ soft-kill techniques like jamming or spoofing. It takes off on its own from a specialized autonomous hangar, gets targeting information from radar or optical sensors, and then travels in the direction of the enemy drone. vajR employs neural networks and onboard sensors to locate and lock onto its target in mid-air before physically engaging it to eliminate the threat.
Particularly in high-threat areas where signal interference or latency might render soft-kill strategies useless, this hard-kill strategy is extremely useful.
