Georgia’s Army National Guard has inaugurated an advanced drone training program aimed at producing skilled unmanned aerial systems operators across the state. The course emphasizes hands-on use of the RQ-28 quadcopter, a compact, AI-enabled FPV drone capable of autonomous obstacle avoidance and equipped with thermal and optical sensors. Designed over six months under Brig. Gen. Jason Fryman’s guidance, the 12-day curriculum combines classroom instruction with practical field exercises to teach troops deployment tactics, mission integration, and reconnaissance techniques. Participants focus on applying the drones for route and zone monitoring in operational and engineering contexts. By producing a cadre of master trainers, the Guard aims to expand drone proficiency throughout its units and gradually transition personnel toward operating larger unmanned platforms, enhancing surveillance and tactical awareness capabilities statewide.
