Airbus has reported substantial progress in the development of the initial high-performance SIRTAP drones intended for the Spanish Armed Forces. Currently, two SIRTAP prototypes are in the final assembly phase at Airbus’ Getafe facility near Madrid, and are slated for extensive ground and flight-testing campaigns next year. This development follows a 495 million euros ($539 million) contract signed in 2023 by the Spanish Ministry of Defense with Airbus, which includes the acquisition of nine SIRTAP systems, each comprising three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a ground control station.
