Raytheon has secured a $698.9-million US defense contract to provide NASAMS units to Taiwan by 2031. The deal is part of Taiwan’s multiyear plan to expand its air defense, supported by a 35.7-billion-NTD budget covering radars, launchers, training, and operational setup. Taiwan recently sent two officers to the US to oversee progress and manage logistics. Officials say NASAMS—already combat-validated—will enhance resilience against air threats from China. The new launchers will integrate upgraded radars to boost detection range and counter jamming. Once fielded, the systems will operate across bases and strategic locations, forming an agile, multilayered defense network alongside existing medium- and long-range interceptors.
