Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT used the Paris Air Show 2025 in Le Bourget to announce an expansion of their cooperation in ground-based air defence. The companies plan to deliver high-performance, rapidly deployable defence systems capable of addressing modern, sophisticated threats using software-defined architectures and the latest technological advancements.
The nature of air threats has changed dramatically in recent years. While aircraft and helicopters once dominated the threat landscape, today’s challenges include cruise missiles, hypersonic and supersonic projectiles, drones, and especially ballistic missiles. Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT are working together to strengthen the integration between sensors and weapon systems to effectively counter these advanced threats.
The partnership between Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT is already well established. Diehl’s IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defence system, which integrates Airbus’ IBMS-FC battle management software and HENSOLDT’s active and passive radars, is already in serial production and operational use. As part of their deepening cooperation, the companies are now focusing on AI-based target detection in the TRML-4D fire-control radar, sensor fusion from multiple sources, and AI-supported situational awareness, planning, and simulation technologies to further enhance system capabilities.
