The US Army’s LTAMDS radar achieved multiple firsts in a missile test at White Sands, detecting and engaging a target via the Integrated Battle Command System. It marked the first use of LRIP hardware and the first engagement using a secondary sector array. The system also integrated with a Large Tactical Power System for the first time. LTAMDS, meant to replace Patriot radars, enhances detection of cruise missiles, drones, and hypersonic threats. RTX has begun low-rate production, and the Army plans to add four Patriot battalions equipped with the radar.
